Digital Marketing Tips: Do Your Colours Reflect Your Brand?

Digital Marketing Tips: Do Your Colours Reflect Your Brand?
We all know that the colours used to advertise a product or brand influence how an audience perceives it.

Bright colours are youthful, fun and fresh. Dark colours are clean and luxurious.

These are, of course, blanket rules that change depending on a range of factors. Age, culture, gender, time, and even the sector you’re working in play into how your brand image is perceived.

In reality, there is no right or wrong colour to use for your brand. Instead, it’s more beneficial to ask yourself, ‘how can my brand stand out against competitors?’ As the industry dictates the expected colours of the brand.

For example, many social media platforms use some shade of blue. Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Tumblr, WordPress, LinkedIn, Vimeo, the list goes on. They all use blue as a primary colour, often with white as the secondary. Why? Because it’s trustworthy, calming, and colour-blind friendly.

In saying this, the blue trend didn’t stop Instagram from using its polaroid logo and later using a pink and yellow gradient. Nor did it stop them from dominating the social media space.

So what can I do?

Your business will already have a developed brand image, so assessing how it fares against competitors might be the first step of a rebrand. This can be quite an undertaking but can be great if you’re looking to refresh your business.

It’s likely you’re already familiar with the common colours used in your sector. You don’t need to throw away the industry standard or reinvent the wheel when you select a new palette. Instead, you can use the industry standard and shape it for your business.

If you’re considering a colour switch and rebrand, it will require a revision of logos, assets, and maybe even a website. It sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it alone. MarketMaxNZ specialises in working with small businesses to create a brand that reflects their vision and goals, while remaining appealing to your target audience.
